Counselling

Woman thinking 1.webp

Counselling is a form of talking therapy. In counselling, you are carefully listened to and encouraged to share what is troubling you in the supportive, affirming space provided.

Your counsellor will respond empathically in a way which enables you to feel heard, attended to, validated and better able to understand yourself and others in your life.

Counselling is primarily focussed on helping you through something you're experiencing right now and, for this reason, tends to be a shorter-term therapy.

Together with your counsellor, you'll decide how many sessions you feel you're likely to require and you'll agree the kind of structure and shape counselling is likely to take. This could involve specific goal-setting and reviews around particular changes, problems or relationships.

How can counselling help?

Counselling can help with all kinds of issues, including problems at home or work, with separation or divorce, coping with loss or grief, sadness or anxiety.

Counselling can help to address problems surrounding self-esteem, confidence, anger and unexpected changes of life direction.

Part of counselling therapy will involve exploring your feelings about what's happening and ensuring you feel deeply supported and reassured.

Counselling at Pathways in Brighton & Hove integrates person-centred, cognitive-behavioural and psychodynamic counselling approaches.

This combined method means you will be thinking carefully, yet practically, together with your counsellor about your issues in a way which enables you to feel unburdened, better able to ‘see’ and understand yourself and clearer about your next steps in life.

Counselling can take into consideration what's happened to you in the past, however its focus is on helping you with what you're going through now and on how you're hoping to feel in the future.

I offer individual counselling on a one-to-one basis from comfortable, convenient rooms in Hove with adults and young people aged 18+.
